“I Was Asked to Sleep with a Dog in My First Nollywood Role” – Nkechi Blessing

Actress Nkechi Blessing Sunday has revealed one of the toughest challenges she faced at the start of her Nollywood career, sharing how she turned down a highly controversial script.

Speaking on a recent episode of The Honest Bunch podcast, Nkechi recounted being offered a role that required her to engage in an indecent act with a dog—a proposition she immediately refused.

“Despite being a newcomer, I was given a script to sleep with a dog. I rejected it because I can’t start off my career like that. Imagine my first ever movie, I am sleeping with a dog. It doesn’t make sense. It is going to be a tag because whatever you start with is what people would associate you with. I didn’t want to be renowned as someone who sleeps with dogs in movies,” she said.

She added that many other actresses eagerly accepted the part after she turned it down. “So, I rejected that script. But immediately I threw it down, so many girls grabbed it. I’m not sure any of them are in the limelight today,” Nkechi noted.

The actress explained that walking away from that production turned out to be a pivotal moment in her career. Shortly after, she met veteran filmmaker Emeka Duru, who offered guidance and support to help her grow in the industry.

Nkechi revealed that Duru eventually helped her secure her debut role in Through The Fire, produced by Imem Isong, marking the official start of her Nollywood journey.
