Popular Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekehinde has said that her principles have prevented her from being a billionaire. She recently had her say while speaking to the press, and fans have been reacting.
Stressing that she could have made a fortune through politics, the moviestar revealed that some opportunities are not worth taking even if they are financially attractive.
Omotola added that her decision was less about what she could gain, and more about what she is willing to stand for.
Her words, “I tell people that if I wanted to be a billionaire, I could have been one easily.
I’ve been offered that opportunity through politics, but I chose not to take it because it would compromise my principles.”
Nollywood is a sobriquet that originally referred to the Nigerian film industry. The origin of the term dates back to the early 2000s, traced to an article in The New York Times. Thus, there are distinct film industries – each seeking to portray the concern of the particular section and ethnicity it represents. However, there is the English-language film industry which is a melting pot for filmmaking and filmmakers from most of the regional industries.
