The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has dismissed rumours linking the Ebola outbreak to a possible election postponement. The NCDC Director-General, Dr Jide Idris, recently had his say at a virtual capacity-building workshop for journalists on effective Ebola reporting.
Warning against misinformation that could undermine containment efforts, Jide disclosed that Nigeria currently has no confirmed Ebola case.
He added that the 54 primary contacts linked to the woman evacuated to Switzerland remain under daily surveillance.
His words, “The fact that we currently have no confirmed case does not mean we should declare Nigeria Ebola-free.
We must continue surveillance and ensure that all contacts are properly monitored.
Three contacts developed symptoms and were tested, but all returned negative results.
However, we cannot stop monitoring them because the results are reassuring.”
