I Won’t Copy Pep Guardiola’s Methods At Man City – Enzo Maresca

Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has firmly rejected suggestions that he will replicate Pep Guardiola’s tactical blueprint at the Etihad. He recently had his say while speaking to the press, and fans have been reacting.

Speaking at his official unveiling, the 46-year-old Italian acknowledged the daunting historical precedent of clubs crumbling after long-serving iconic managers depart, vowing to learn from the post-Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsène Wenger eras to make his City stint a success.

Stressing that he does not intend to copy Pep’s methods, Maresca added that he considers himself a different manager.

His words, “There can be some similar concepts, but every manager is different. I don’t think there are managers who can copy and paste other managers; it’s difficult. I don’t see football in the same way, and that’s why I don’t believe in copy and paste.

The managers with many years at the same club, after it’s always a struggle a bit – after Sir Alex, after Arsene. But also it’s a challenge to try to do the right things immediately for this organisation, for the fans, for everyone.

I think the organisation is the main thing. This club, this organisation, they had three managers in 17 years. This is not normal. It does not happen often.

So this probably is one of the things why I’m confident that we can do a great job; we can continue to do the job that has been done in the last 14, 15 years, since Roberto Mancini, and then after Manuel Pellegrini and, as you said, for ten years Pep.

To be honest, I feel quite lucky in terms of my former clubs, Leicester and Chelsea; I think we did a great job in both clubs. The identity of the teams was clear; the success of the teams was clear. And I feel very lucky to have been part of these clubs. But now I think we are here today; that is the most important thing. Just about City. Nothing to add.”
