Ogun State government has said it has wrapped up plans to de-worm nothing less than 900,000 school kids in the ongoing health awareness programme across 10 local government areas in the state.
Gov. Dapo Abiodun revealed this on Wednesday in Abeokuta.
Speaking via the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Adesanya Ayinde, the exercise was a chance to help kids get rid of worms that can make them vulnerable to skin and respiratory infections.
He added that a total of 839,273 children were being targeted during the exercise in 4,900 schools across the designated local government areas.
He also urged parents and guardians to unite with the health workers, who have been charged with the responsibility of carrying out the exercise.
The designated local government areas are: Abeokuta South, Abeokuta North, Ifo, Odeda, Yewa North, Yewa South, Odogbolu, Sagamu, Ijebu North and Ogun Waterside.
Dapo Abiodun (born 29 May 1960) is a Nigerian businessman and politician, who is the Governor of Ogun State after winning the 2019 general elections under the platform of the All Progressive Congress. Dapo Abiodun is the board Chairman of the Corporate Affairs Commission. He is the managing director of Heyden Petroleum and the founder of First Power Limited. On 10 March 2019, he was declared Governor-Elect of Ogun State by the Independent National Electoral Commission. He was sworn in as Governor of Ogun State on 29 May 2019.
He hails from Iperu Remo in Ogun State and belongs to a royal family. He was born into the family of Dr Emmanuel and Mrs Victoria Abiodun from Iperu Remo, in Ogun East senatorial district on 29 May 1960.
He studied civil engineering at the Obafemi Awolowo University Ife, Osun State and subsequently, Accounting at Kennesaw State University, Atlanta Georgia, United States of America (USA). He also holds a Honours et Doctorate Degree in Finance from Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State and another in Business Administration from Adeleke University, Ede, Osun State. He was involved in a certificate scandal in the buildup to the 2019 general elections, due to the fact that he claimed in the 2015 senatorial election form for Ogun East to have graduated from Obafemi Awolowo University, but in the 2019 governorship form, he claimed to possess only secondary school certificate of education.
He is the managing director/CEO of Heyden Petroleum Ltd [HPL], an indigenous player in the downstream, midstream, and upstream oil and gas industry in Nigeria. He is also reportedly the founder of First Power Limited.
