The Nigerian music industry is remarkably competitive. Putting up with the creative pressures of releasing fresh music to sustain your relevance can take a massive toll on you.

This is why our favorite Nigerian musicians seek external distractions outside music to relax and decompress. Unsurprisingly, football features heavily in their pastimes.

Most of these stars support some of the most popular football clubs in Europe, heavily featured on top decentralized sports betting platforms, which you definitely rave about too.

This article exposes six top Nigerian music creators and the football clubs that keep them going outside the studio.

Adekunle Gold
Arguably the most passionate Nigerian musician football supporter online, AG Baby has never stopped loving Manchester United.

He’s been to Old Trafford to watch the club play on multiple occasions and was there when Machester United defeated Tottenham in October 2022. Adekunle Gold tweets about almost every Manchester United match.

He cited that he began supporting the club in the 2006/07 season due to the influence of the then-young Cristiano Ronaldo.

However, he never left the club despite Cristiano Ronaldo leaving for Real Madrid in 2009. He was one of the happiest people in the world when Ronaldo returned to Manchester United in 2021.

Adekunle Gold has seen Manchester United’s dominance of the English Premier League in his early years of supporting the club. He’s also been with the club despite them not winning any trophy since 2017.

RudeBoy is one of Nigeria’s iconic music duos, Psquare. He was actively part of both brothers’ dominance of charts across Nigeria and Africa.

He’s a passionate Chelsea FC supporter and shows his support for the club through social media. Rudeboy was active during the 2021 Champions League final that Chelsea won and uploaded many celebratory pictures on his social media pages.

He’s been to Stamford Bridge to watch Chelsea live multiple times and has taken pictures with many of the club’s stars like Willian, Hazard, and Joh Obi Mikel. He stated that John Obi-Mikel was the player that influenced him to start supporting the Blues.

Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, popularly known as Mayorkun, rose to stardom after he signed for Davido’s record label and released “Eleko”. Mayorkun has never fallen off the perch since then, and he’s released many hit songs like “Certified Loner”, “Geng” and “Mama”.

Mayorkun is a die-hard Manchester United fan. He was spotted outside Old Trafford on November 24, 2019, in the team’s jersey, making his frustration known after the team lost.

Mayorkun endured an abysmal 2021/22 season, just like many of the club’s fans globally.

The club seemed to have gotten its mojo back after they employed Erik Ten Hag and Mayorkun is proud of his team. Mayorkun is a football fan, and he shot the video to his song, ‘Certified Loner’ at the Mashood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, Nigeria.

Falz started his professional music career in 2009 and has released four studio albums. Some of his famous songs include “Marry Me” featuring Poe and Yemi Alade, “Soldier” featuring Simi, and the controversial single “This is Nigeria”.

Falz is also an actor and appeared in the Nigerian TV Show “Jennifer’s Diary” and the movie “10 Days in Sun City”.

He supports Arsenal FC. Falz uses his Facebook stories to share updates on the club’s progress and is glad at the club’s form in the 2022/23 season under Mikel Arteta. He and other Arsenal fans deserve to enjoy the glory days after six years of non-European football.

Falz also appeared on Robbie Lyle anchored Arsenal Fan TV.

DJ Cuppy
DJ Cuppy is the famed daughter of Nigerian business titan, Femi Otedola. She had her early life in Lagos and London and released her first compilation album in 2014. Cuppy is a Manchester United fan.

She supported the club through the 2021-22 season, which was statistically the club’s worst season in the English Premier League. Cuppy uploads many pictures of her in a Manchester United jersey on her social media handles to show her love for the club.

She hasn’t been very active on Manchester United matters online this season. Pictures of her and her love, Ryan Taylor, dominate her social media pages.

Cuppy visited an empty Old Trafford in May 2022 wearing a Manchester United Gown.

Zlatan Ibile
The English Premier League is the most popular European League in Nigeria, but many other Nigerians support other leagues. One of Nigeria’s most famous FC Barcelona supporters is Zlatan Ibile.

Zlatan Ibile became famous after releasing Olamide assisted “My Body” in 2017. He released other hit singles like “Able God featuring Chinko Ekun” and “Killing Dem” featuring Burna Boy and “Zanku”.

Zlatan is most active in supporting FC Barcelona on his Twitter and engages in fan discussions about the happenings at the club. He uploaded a picture of him at the historic Camp Nou stadium on October 12, 2022.

These are some Nigerian musicians and the football club that they support. Football is the most popular sport in Nigeria, and many Nigerian artists are football fans. However, these six are among the most active.
