The Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions has rejected the Federal Government’s offer of a 30 per cent increase in its members’ Consolidated Academic Allowance. The General Secretary of NASU, Mr Peters Adeyemi, recently had his say while speaking with journalists at the Regular Meeting of Universities and Inter-University Centres Trade Group Council.

According to him, the increment is inadequate, and the association could be forced to embark on a nationwide strike if the government does not offer a 40 per cent increment before May 1.

Adeyemi added that the union would only accept a 40 per cent increment, which the government implemented for the Academic Staff Union of Universities as from Jan 1.

His words, “The simple thing is to conclude the agreement and give 40 per cent to non-teaching staff.

That will guarantee calm and peace on our campuses. If anything contrary is done, we will shut down the system.

We respect our academic colleagues, but they cannot operate without us being on duty. Our role is indispensable in the system.”

WOW.
