Portugal manager Jorge Jesus has explained why he substituted Cristiano Ronaldo against Wales. He recently had his say while speaking to the press, and fans have been reacting.
Explaining the tactical reasoning behind his ruthless decision, Jesus revealed that he took Ronaldo off because the tight fixture required a very different tactical approach to secure the three points.
Jorge added that the substitution had to happen because his star player was no longer capable of executing the required high press from the front.

There were 25 minutes left and I wanted to bring on a quick player in the first defensive line, capable of pressing the two central defenders.
Cris couldn’t do it anymore. I knew offensively, he couldn’t do much more.”
