Popular musician Seun Kuti has said that he believes the regular financial assistance given to poor people takes away some of the anger that could otherwise push them to demand bigger changes in society. He recently had his say while speaking on ObjecTV, and fans have been reacting.
Stressing that people living in poverty would naturally have stronger reasons to challenge the system around them, Seun stated that occasional handouts make life just comfortable enough for them to endure their situation rather than push for a major change.
The activist added that hunger and hardship can create a strong desire for change.
His words, “The beggars are the ones who are supposed to be angry in order to cause revolution, but since we give them money from time to time, they are not hungry enough to be angry.”
