England captain Harry Kane won the 2026 Ballon d’Or by a narrow margin over France forward Kylian Mbappé. The organisers recently had their say on the Ballon d’Or website in an article published after Monday’s London ceremony, and fans have been reacting.
According to them, the gap between the Bayern Munich striker and Real Madrid forward was actually smaller than the 41 points that separated Rodri and Vinicius Junior in 2024.
It read, “While the exact details of the tally haven’t yet been revealed, Vincent Garcia, the editor-in-chief of France Football, has already confirmed that the margin separating Kane from Mbappé is even smaller than the 41 points that separated Rodri from Vinicius Jr. in the 2024 edition.
Out of a total of several thousand points, the victory was decided by a hair’s breadth.”
Kane’s victory marked the first time an Englishman had won the men’s Ballon d’Or in 25 years, following Michael Owen’s triumph in 2001.
The England captain enjoyed a prolific 2025/26 campaign, scoring 73 goals for club and country, according to UEFA.
