
Riyad Mahrez has announced his retirement from international football after Algeria’s 2-0 defeat to Switzerland in the 2026 World Cup Round of 32. He recently made the announcement while speaking with the press, and fans have been reacting
Announcing that the defeat would be his final appearance for the national team, Mahrez stated that representing Algeria for more than a decade is a massive honour.
The former Manchester City forward leaves the Algeria setup with 119 caps, bringing to an end a career in which he became one of the country’s most influential players.
His words, “It’s my last appearance even with the national team. It was my last game.”
